Richard Armitage  
 
Richard Armitage became Deputy Secretary of State in March 2001. He was a professional assassin in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam war. He lead assassin teams similar to the Phoenix program that killed and tortured tens of thousands of Asians. After Vietnam he worked for the Defense Department on arms sales in Iran and other countries. In 1983 he became an Assistant Secretary of Defense. He was an intimate insider in the Iran/Contra illegalities. He has been accused of links to illicit gambling, drug smuggling and expansion of organized crime in Russia, Central Asia and the Far East.



1967   Graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. Was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. Served on a destroyer stationed on the Vietnam gunline and subsequently completed three combat tours with the riverine/advisory forces in Vietnam. Fluent in Vietnamese. Leading active assassination specialist in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Enjoyed killing.

1973    Left active duty in southeast Asia and joined the U.S. Defense Attache Office, Saigon. Immediately prior to the fall of Saigon, he organized and led the removal of Vietnamese naval assets and personnel from the country.

1983    Pentagon Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. He represented the Department of Defense in developing politico-military relationships and initiatives throughout the world, spearheaded U.S. Pacific security policy including the U.S.-Japan and U.S.-China security relationships, managed all DoD security assistance programs, and provided oversight of policies related to the law of the sea, U.S. special operations, and counter-terrorism. He played a leading role in Middle East Security Policies.

1984    Investigated by President Reagan's Commission on Organized Crime for alleged links to gambling and prostitution.

1986    Private dispute between POW activist Ross Perot and Armitage went public with photos of Armitage with a topless Vietnamese nightclub owner Nguyen O'Rourke and allegations of gambling and prostitution

1989    Denied appointment as Assistant Secretary of State because of links to Iran-Contra

1989    Filled key diplomatic positions as Presidential Special Negotiator for the Philippines Military Bases Agreement and Special Mediator for Water in the Middle East. President Bush sent him as a Special Emissary to Jordan’s King Hussein during the 1991 Gulf War.

1992    With the personal rank of Ambassador, directed U.S. assistance to the new independent states (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. In January 1992, the Bush Administration’s desire to jump-start international assistance to the NIS resulted in his appointment as Coordinator for Emergency Humanitarian Assistance. During his tenure in these positions Mr. Armitage completed extensive international coordination projects with the European Community, Japan and other donor countries.

1993    Richard L. Armitage was President of Armitage Associates L.C. He had been engaged in a range of worldwide business and public policy endeavors as well as frequent public speaking and writing. Previously, he held senior troubleshooting and negotiating positions in the Departments of State and Defense, and the Congress.

2001    Sworn in as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State on March 26, 2001.
