We just had a great event in the "True Grit Triathlon". We had 55 participants this year
compared to 23 last and 2 the first year; we are growing and look forward to next year. Being the race director I can't thank enough those
who with their help made this event the success it was. To Gerry, Rusty, and Dennis Weaver, the Eagle Hill Homeowners Association,
Carol & William Hopkins, Glenda & John Young, Ridgway State Park, The Town of Ridgway, and the Ouray County Sheriffs Department for
letting us use their property and roads to design a truly great course. To Tammie Tuttle and the True Grit Cafe for their support, time, food,
and money in making the pre and post race events so memorable. To the fantastic new owners of the Mountain Market who showed up
just in time to quench the athletes thirsts with ice cold Naked Juice as they came in from a long hot run. To Sarah Shireman, from the New
Belgium Brewery with the shirts, hats, and Fat Tire, that quenched the thirsts behind the True Grit Cafe at the awards ceremony. To the
Chipeta Sun Lodge for the room donation for our timers. To Santa Cruz Bicycles who gave us the great prizes. To City Market for the great
food and cookies. To the Wal-Mart Super Store for snacks and supplies. To the following volunteers, Jack Beaver and his communications
crew, Susan & Jim Wing, CeCe & Don Goerlitz, Jan & Dick Osterhof, Glenda, John Henry, & John Young, Nicky Pasquariello, Maude &
John Malone, ME & Dick Spirek, Lee Griffin, James Robertson, Brenda & Mark Pettit, Sue Hibbard, Sally Blouse, Ashley Blouse, Brittany
Blouse, Chelsey Knowles, Rosie Clark, Jeff Riddle and the Ridgway State Park, Tammy and the True Grit staff, Burt & especially Sue Stern,
and a very special thanks to Lyle Braund who worked so hard to groom and design a tremendous bike course. To all the great triathletes
who came from all over to make this a truly world class field. And for all of the support from the Ouray County community. All the money
goes to the Ouray County Humane Society to build a new facility. Next year we want to try and grow to 200. The response from the
participants was fantastic; the praise of our course, the beauty of our area, and the warmth of our people. All these and more will bring
them back with their friends and those who hear about our event. We plan on doing this next year on Sept. 15th so put it on your calendar
and join us in the fun. Thanks again to everyone. Hope I didn't forget anyone.
